For Groupon Purchases made on Jan 6

GROUPON.CROSSFITCLE.COM

Update (April 6): Tomorrow, Thursday April 7, is the last day to activate your groupon. Activation means that you register for class online and bring your groupon with you to class. We have decided to extend this deadline to Friday to finish out the week. After Friday there will be no late exceptions.

GETTING STARTED
1) Register for a groupon class. With the rare exception (active college athletes) more than 3 days / wk is almost always too much for someone starting CrossFit. This is not your average globo gym. The workouts are intense and you will need the time to recover. If after a few weeks your body feels good and capable of handling more, please consider registering for more classes then.
2) Print out your groupon and bring it to class to be redeemed
3) Sign waiver at the gym and begin your first class

NO SHOW POLICY:
If you do not show up for class but fail to cancel your class registration at least 2hr before class, you have effectively blocked someone else from attending. No show reservations will cause all future reservations to be cancelled, and you will have to re-register for classes before you can attend.

Note:
occasionally a class will fill up and you will have an option to be put on the wait list. This means that if someone else cancels you will receive an email immediately notifying you that you are now on the list and can attend that class.

The "Fine Print"
  • Expires Apr 7, 2011
  • Limit 1 per person, may buy 1 additional as a gift.
  • Must activate membership by 4/7/11, membership expires 2 months from activation date.
  • Online class registration required. (bring a copy of your Groupon to your first class)
  • For new members only, but current members may buy one as a gift.
Additional Information
  • You can only attend class IF you register for that class in advance online. You can do this quickly by clicking on Hours / Schedule at www.CrossFit CLE.com (look for GROUPON)
  • The class schedule is live 24/7 at hours.crossfitcle.com
  • If you show up at the gym without registering in advance you are NOT allowed to participate in any classes. But you ARE welcome to visit, watch, and cheer everyone on!
  • To keep training quality high (as expected at any CrossFit gym), the Groupon classes are limited to 10 and may fill up. If they fill up too often we WILL add more.
  • Because we have a large number of starters entirely new to CrossFit from Groupon, we have organized special Groupon classes. If you want to progress into full-on CrossFit classes (non-groupon classes, greater challenge, more skill) you can do so but only AFTER purchasing, scheduling, and completing "The 9" Foundations. Foundations are a requirement for all new members to participate in regular WOD classes (non-groupon classes), whether from groupon or not. You are encouraged to attend the starter Groupon class for a week or two first before deciding to purchase "The Nine" foundations. We don't want you to spend another $99 before you know what this CrossFit stuff is all about. You do NOT need to purchase anything extra to use all 29 Groupon visits if you attend Groupon classes. However because so many people ARE joining after their groupon expires we are rate limiting the new sign-ups to 3 per week. If you know that you plan to join after your gruopon, sign up early for "The Nine" with Dave so that you don't get stuck waiting a few weeks without workouts.

I really, really want to do this but I can only do it late (8 PM or early 5AM). Any chances there will be classes at that time for beginners? Looks like all of "The 9" classes are right after work.

I've heard tons of great things about CrossFit and want to give it a try. Unfortunately since I live and work on the eastside I have to drive about a half hour to get to you. So only very early or very late workouts would work.

We have held 8pm workouts before but on average we only had 1 person every other week. Attendance has historically been too low to make it an affordable option. That's not to say we won't do it in the future, but probably not any time soon.

Thank you for your interest!

Is this only for the downtown location or can it be used at one of the nearby/satellite locations?

Aaron said:

All CrossFit gyms are independently, locally owned (not franchises). For this reason the Groupon is for downtown Cleveland at CrossFit CLE only. BUT if our location is not ideal for you we DO encourage you to check out your local CrossFit gym. Thanks for asking!

What are the 29 drop-in classes if they are not regular classes? From looking at the fine print, I would have to pay $99 for the three foundation classes before being allowed to take regular classes such as "WOD." What does my Groupon deal get me, then?

Aaron said:

We are holding Groupon beginner classes for everyone who purchases the Groupon. They are still CrossFit classes but are geared for beginners in terms of skill level (for example most people can't do a snatch).

With your groupon you can choose to attend all 29 visits in Groupon classes (which will be fun and rewarding) or you can go through "The 9" Foundations to move up to full-on classes. There is still a month or two learning curve going into regular WOD classes but "The 9" helps give you a solid foundation.

Renee said:

How "beginner" are the beginner classes? I am no marathoner or triathlete and have never attempted (and am not sure that I want to) a snatch but I have lifted weights for more than 10 years and have done spinning, yoga, pilates, etc. Would I be bored or would I still get a good workout? And will these classes give me a good idea of whether or not I want to invest in the foundation classes?

Melody said:

Are all the classes listed on http://groupon.crossfitcle.com/ the Groupon "beginner" classes?

Aaron said:

Renee, you will be challenged and it will be fun, as long as challenging is fun for you, haha. All workouts are designed to scale up or down so there will be something in your skill range.

Aaron said:

Melody, all classes are listed at http://hours.crossfitcle.com. You will see the Groupon classes indentified there by name, beginning on Mon Jan 10.

Renee said:

Will beginner classes be offered at 7 a.m.?

Aaron said:

Renee, yes, beginning Jan 10. Our current hours are here: http://hours.crossfitcle.com

Danae said:

So the 29 classes are groupon-only beginner classes, correct? And if we want to progress into the standard WOD's, we have to also purchase "The 9" and standard membership? I just want to be clear on what the 29 classes actually are - thanks, and I'm definitely looking forward to starting!

Aaron said:

Danae, you are correct.

Dan M said:

Although I've never attended a CrossFit box before, I am very familiar with CF. I have a coupon from GoupOn. Do I have to use the beginner classes or can I attend other times?

Aaron said:

Hi Dan,
We occasionally get new people in the gym that want to skip the foundations. Ultimately this decision lies with our head Trainer Travis and depends on how efficiently (and safely) you move your body without instruction from us.

So it's not really possible to answer this question without seeing you move. Sometimes we have people come in from other CrossFit boxes that have horrible form even though they've been members for 3 months. Many other times they come in with perfect form, the 9 serve no purpose, and so we allow it to be skipped. So for now, please register for a groupon class and we'll see how you move, then speak with Travis.

Renee and any others wondering if you'll still get a good workout doing our beginner "Groupon" classes -- don't you worry! If you consider yourself in shape and you've never done Crossfit before, you're in for not only a great workout but a big surprise as well!

We look forward to seeing you in the gym :-)

Dan M said:

Aaron,

Noted with thanks. I'll sign up for the Groupon Classes. I have not mastered the 9 Movements, so this makes sense to me. Thanks again.

Aaron,

I noticed there's no Groupon classes on weekends. Is this a possibility?

Thanks.

Aaron said:

Evan, what time would you be wanting on weekends? Generally our weekend classes have had low attendance, but if there's enough interest we'll do one on Saturday too.

Evan M said:

Aaron,

Anytime on Saturday would be fine. 10 or 11 am?

Evan

Melody said:

I would come to a Saturday class...

Aaron said:

Even, Melody,
OK. We've added a groupon class for Saturdays at 10:45. If we have regular attendance we'll keep it running, if not we will cancel it. I hope to see you both there!

Adam said:

I'm really looking forward to starting the Groupon class on Wednesday!

That said, do you have showers or any type of locker-room?

Aaron said:

Adam, we have showers planned as an add-on in the future, but there are none at this time. We do have lockers and we do have bathrooms where you can change.

Laura said:

I have my groupon but bought it when the times were posted "pre-groupon" schedule.
6:00 a.m. at least three days a week would work best. The new times offered are simply not workable.
Thanks!

Aaron said:

Hi Laura,
There was never a "pre-groupon" schedule. The groupon starter class hours were posted at the time of the groupon purchases, though we have added some additional ones since.

Madeline said:

I also bought the groupon and when I looked at the schedule posted there weren't groupon times listed. I would not have purchased it if there was not a 6 am option.

Aaron said:

Madeline, Laura,
I'm sorry you didn't see the hours we had posted. You have three options to proceed:
1) contact [email protected] for a $29 refund
2) attend the Groupon CrossFit starter classes ($300 value)
3) Purchase and schedule The Nine foundations training (required for any/all new members, groupon or not) so that you can begin to attend regular classes.
Hope that helps!
Feel free to contact me directly: [email protected]
