I competed in Gymnastics and Track and Field through high school, and after graduating I couldn't find anything to fill the void of organized sports. I spent two years in my college gym between the elliptical, treadmill, and occasionally the some weight machines before I found CrossFit in the summer of 2009. I was instantly hooked on the intensity, structure, and variety that CrossFit offers- it provided me with exactly what I had been missing so much since high school - an environment of camaraderie and a competitive outlet. What I love most about CrossFit is its power to make people stronger both mentally and physically, regardless of age or previous athletic experience. I have enjoyed every minute of my CrossFit journey thus far as an athlete and competitor, and I am excited to experience CrossFit from a new perspective as a trainer!

I've been an athlete my entire life, after high school ended I continued to pursue my fitness goals with your standard weightlifting regimen. Shortly after graduation from college I was introduced to CrossFit by a good friend, at the time I considered myself in shape, lifting and running 5 days a week. Boy was I in for a treat, that first CrossFit workout completely kicked my ass. After that I was hooked on the program, I hadn't had anything push me that hard since my days as a wrestler. Shortly after starting CrossFit I realized that this was the path my life was to take. I got my Level 1 certification and have been coaching here at CrossFit CLE ever since. I stand behind the program 100%, and believe that through dedication to training, and proper nutrition anyone can realize their fitness goals.

I have only been Crossfitting since April of 2011, but working towards constantly varied, functional fitness for years. As a multiple sport athlete most of my life I could never find a training regimen that met all of my needs. For years I had to run, lift, ride and do jump stretch among other things to feel like I achieved a complete workout. That has changed since finding Crossfit. I love Crossfit because of the competitive environment inherent at any given time and the opportunity to compete not only with others but with yourself. I competed in this year's CrossFit Games Oen and plan on doing the same this coming year, and pursuing the best possible athlete I can be for many years to come. I recently obtained my Level 1 Certification at Crossfit Charlotte and have begun coaching the noon weekday class and 1-on-1 OnRamp sessions for people who can't attend the regular hours. I hope to bring even a little bit of my enthusiasm to CLE.

I have been using CrossFit in my training for over 4 years. I am currently in medical school at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, and as a medical student I am completely sold on CrossFit due to its scientific approach to maximizing human performance. Everything must be measurable and repeatable. CrossFit has not only made me more physically fit, but it has improved my mental toughness dramatically, and I have seen these benefits transfer to my life outside of the gym. After competing in the 2010 Ohio Sectional as well as the North East Regional as an affiliate team member, I decided I wanted to share CrossFit with others as a coach, and in September 2010 I received my Level 1 certification. I feel that CrossFit is a powerful medium for improving one's life and I consider myself privileged to help others achieve their goals.

I've been Crossfitting since 2008. I started experimenting with the workouts at my university's gym after becoming bored with traditional exercise routines. I had a weekly rotation of workouts focusing on chest and triceps, back and biceps, minimal leg work, followed by a half hour session of cardio. The workouts I was doing were time consuming and didn't give me the results I wanted. I found that the Crossfit workouts I was doing were the only thing that seemed to challenge me and leave me feeling like I had done real work the next day.
When I returned to Cleveland that same year, I decided to switch completely over to Crossfit. The material on Crossfit.com led me to believe that this program could get me to where I wanted to be physically. So, I gathered what weights I could and built a small box in my basement. I spent the next year studying and teaching myself the movements on Crossfit.com. Today, I'm in the best shape of my life. Continuing Crossfit has given me the confidence to tackle any task placed in front of me. I am now convinced that a proper diet (meat, vegetables, nuts seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar) combined with constantly varied functional movements, performed at high intensity, are keys to living healthy and fulfilling life.
The success I've achieved through this type of training compelled me to share my knowledge with others and get my Crossfit Level 1 Certification. I find coaching athletes at Crossfit CLE and seeing progress they make and results they earn to be extremely rewarding. Athletic training is not my profession but has become one of my passions.

Yes,
CrossFit gets a lot of hype - but I wasn't convinced until I tried it
myself. I've been doing the CrossFit workout-of-the-day for 4 years
and am now completely sold on the effectiveness of the program because
I have seen incredible strength improvements and time performance
improvements in both myself and in others. I am a former
cross-country runner (16:35 PR). Eight years ago I had arms like sticks
and weighed 130lb. Today I'm up to 180lb and I'm stronger than ever
thanks to CrossFit. If you had told me I'd be deadlifting 400lb doing 35 consecutive pull-ups, or hitting a 54" box jump I would have laughed
in your face considering my chronic low back pain and weak arms. Based
on nine years of machine training at regular gyms with little or no
results, I simply did not believe I had the genetics to "be strong". CrossFit
changed my world.
CrossFit is quickly growing because thousands
of other individuals continue to see incredible results like this in
workouts that last only 20-30 minutes each day. If you are willing to
commit we can help you achieve levels you simply never thought your body
was capable of performing. No bullshit.

Let me also add that Aaron is concerned on making sure that you improve and that you are using proper technique. He has a lot of patience and will help you work through your problem areas. Anyone can improve if you are serious about exercise and you are committed to your own health. I have been working with Aaron for 6 months and have seen improvements in strength and endurance!! I highly endorse Aaron and crossfit.
Thanks Jim!
I've been with crossfit for six months and I am very pleased with the results I have been able to achieve because of adhering and being totally committed to the training methods. They are the safest methods I have ever come across and I have been training for over thirty years and still learning. I hope and pray that I never know it all, because a man who knows everything knows nothing!!!
Aaron Shaffer is the best trainer that know, all other trainers should learn how to train from him! I have been in gyms and have witnessed how little these trainers know and it's utterly amazing that more people are not injured listening to these other trainers in some of these gyms. I survived a horrible accident a year ago and I literally had to start over again and find my way back and now I'm almost there doing things I wouldn't have even dreamed of doing, squatting and deadlifting and looking forward to them and enjoying them now. Crossfit for ever!!!!
Brady, you're a great part of the Cleveland CrossFit crew. Thank you for the motivation you provide to all of us!
I'm not the best - but I am taught by some of the world's best. I would never be where I am today without their instruction.
Aaron is a great trainer and a very humble man - a sign of a true warrior!
It was a pleasure meeting you at the Burgener cert!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AARON!!!!!
I highly recommend coming to a class, no matter what shape you’re in. I was easily 70 lbs over weight, and pretty much a professional couch potato. Since the 3 weeks I’ve been going, I have lost 10 lbs and have definitely gotten stronger. I still have a long way to go, but with the knowledge and support of Travis and the rest of the CrossFit family, I will for sure get there sooner than later. I can honestly say that joining CrossFit has been a life changing experience. Aren’t YOU ready for a change??
Awesome Job Cindy! Congrats on the wt Lose! Keep it Strong! Also I promise I won't make your head bobble too much. =)
