Train like a Navy SEAL

From the Navy SEAL website:

"In every category of training, SEALs operate at the razor sharp tip of the spear. This is why only the best training methods are used to develop and equip America’s elite. In the last few years, a growing insurgency of the program CrossFit® has emerged as the preeminent strength and conditioning program for many SEALs, to the extent that it is utilized in every phase of BUD/S and SQT, and within the SEAL Teams as an integral component of the PT program."

Navy beachThe NavySEALs.com CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We use the same routines for individuals seeking to get into shape for the first time, as elite athletes or warriors prior to an event or combat. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs. The needs of veteran SEAL Operators and BUD/S wannabes differ by degree not kind. You can find your best fitness from the same regimen.

We are moving onwards and upwards,we now have a bench and for me that means that the circle is now completed. I can now focus on developing completely. I have gone to various health clubs through the years and I thought that I was learning about strength training,but I was really learning nothing! In this stage of my life I'm now really beginning to really learn and that is because of crossfit's training methods. I am no longer training blindly anymore, strength training now makes sense and I'm not hurting myself with needless injuries because of unsafe training techniques. I'm amazed that more people are not injured because of personal trainers who don't have a clue,these trainers need to be trained by experienced crossfit trainers. I don't trust any trainers! Only crossfit trainers!!! I've been around the block as far as trainers go and at age 54 I'm in the best condition of my life because of crossfit. When you know it all you know nothing, when you admit that you know nothing, that is when you are on your way to learning something, like Bruce Lee the martial artist we don't want to be part of the classical mess. Crossfit forever!

Crossfit Trainer here! Here's a fun one, guys:

Sumo Deadlift:
Select Body weight for the bar.
10 sets of 10 mixed with;
Kettle Bell High Pull:(72lbs.)10 sets of 20.

Go back and fourth trying to complete all 300 repetitions as fast as possible. No more than 20 sec. breaks. Watch your form!

For a repsonse to Brady's statement. I am a personal trainer and I have never come across any of my client to sustain an injury, and as knowledge of fitness goes I was doing workouts in the same degree of intensity and precision as crossfit before I started following crossfit, but why slander people that are trying to better people that are out of shape and need someone to motivate them. Maybe where you come from trainers are pretty boys but not all trainers think in the "health club fitness" standard.

My wife is a Level 1 Cert trainer, I'm a Cert wannabe (wallet is keeping me from doing it)... but we've both been in Crossfit for several months now...and we got our Affiliate!

Val Waguman is one of Sharon V's fav's of all time!

We feel that personal training is important...and do CrossFit workouts and training with our clients... even 1 on 1... As i'm 47 and have been training for years...I, too am seeing HUGE changes in my body, strength and all other aspects of athletics... however, pushing myself too hard has led to some minor injuries, due to stupidity and not having the FORM down perfect before going big.

I think personal training, and the attention my WIFE gives to detail (as well as I in the areas I excell in) is crucial...in seeking any physical change... So though Brad is Zealous about CrossFit Trainers, lets not forget MOST trainers were trainers before CrossFit... US TOO. We brought our already excellent training skills to the table...

I agree..no reason to trash personal trainers..they will ALWAYS be a necessity! GREAT THREAD !!

I am not going to back off from my statement earlier about trainers,but I will say this,I teach spinning classes and I always tell my class hat I am there for them not the other way around. A trainer should have a humble spirit and not take themselves to seriously. My crossfit trainer is the best when it comes to this,because of him I was able to return to work as a firefighter in the best condition I have ever been in and I'm 55 years old nuff said! Crossfit forever!! Brady
